My Story
Josh Bean
I have always loved being busy with my hands. Woodworking came to be a way to channel my energy and creativity. It allows me to bring any and all ideas to life using a beautiful and natural product. I love the variability of appearance and grain and feel of different types of woods, especially native Australian timbers. These add so much character beyond construction and design and joinery. I am passionate about helping others appreciate this beauty too.
For now, I solely craft pieces using hand tools. I find this gives me a personal connection to each and every project. I aspire to add more machinery to my workshop to streamline the preparation of materials while still using hand tools for the joinery and details; resulting in a hybrid methodology.
I am also passionate about the environment. I collect local trees that have already fallen down or were being removed for another purpose and cut them into lumber. This means that I save these logs from being burned, releasing carbon into the atmosphere. Instead by creating beautiful and long-lasting furniture the carbon can be trapped for years and even generations to come. I also know where the wood comes from and so I am not supporting the logging of ancient and precious forests, or importing from unknown sources around the globe.
